Why We Need More Trade Workers

Generally speaking, the narrative that children are taught is that, after high school, you need to go to college in order to get a solid, well-paying job. However, over the last few years, more people are realizing that, not only is this not the only option, but it’s not necessarily the best one either.

While more students enroll in universities, there’s a severe lack of people looking for trade jobs. For more reasons than one, we need more trade workers filling those positions.

Why We Need More Trade Workers

Crippling College Debt

The price of a college education has skyrocketed over the last few decades, resulting in Americans collectively owing over $1.5 trillion in student loan debt. While a year at a university can cost upwards of $60,000, a year of trade school is typically a fraction of that cost.

That means those who attend trade school over a four-year college end up saving themselves thousands of dollars.

Lack of “White Collar” Jobs

Even though the college narrative promises a job after four years of hard work, countless graduates find themselves unable to find employment months, sometimes even years, after graduating.

There’s always a need for trade workers and their services, so trade school graduates have an easier time finding employment.

More Time Spent in the Actual Field

Trader schools are usually only two-year programs compared to four years for traditional Bachelor degree programs. That’s, at the least, two more years in the field practicing what you’ve learned and two more years earning experience to grow your skills.

High Earning Potential

It’s true that people typically earn more with a college degree than they do with just a high school degree, but the same can’t be said compared to trade school. Depending on their field and skill levels, some trader works can make double what college graduates in their jobs.
