Tips for Lowering Your Electric Bill

There’s not a single person on Earth who opens their utility bill, sees a high number, and is happy about it. With all the expenses you have as a homeowner, you shouldn’t have to worry about an overly high electric bill. Luckily, there are plenty of ways you can lower that bill so that you’re not paying as much per month.

Install a Programmable Thermostat

If your HVAC system is constantly running because you have an old thermostat, don’t be surprised if your electric bill is very high, as a result. By installing a programmable thermostat, you can set when you want your system to run and ultimately use less electricity.

Wash Your Clothes in Cold Water

Washing your clothes in hot water means you’re using more energy, and electricity, to heat that water. If your clothes aren’t that dirty, wash them in cold water so you don’t have to use as much electricity during the wash cycle.

Unplug Your Devices

Certain electronic devices, such as phone chargers, Blu-ray players, and small appliances, still use electricity even when they are technically powered off. If you don’t need something, unplug it while you’re not using it. In the long run, it can go a long way in lowering your electric bill.

Replace Your Air Filters

If your HVAC unit is trying to function with dirty air filters, it’s going to have to work harder to get enough air flow, which ultimately means it uses more electricity. Make sure to change your air filters once a month to keep your unit running efficiently.
