A “true” winter is somewhat of a foreign concept in Orlando. We don’t really get snow or anything close to what people in other parts of the county would consider “blistering cold.” But that doesn’t mean we don’t get a little chilly — let’s be honest, 50° is pretty cold for us. So when it comes to prepping your AC for fall and the cooler weather that’s the come, here’s what you should do.
Prepping Your AC For Fall
Your AC works a bit differently in fall, so get it inspected by an HVAC professional to ensure your unit is ready to handle the cooler temperatures. Your HVAC technician will also be able to spot any problems and get them fixed before they get worse.
Change Your Thermostat Settings
A good rule of thumb is to change your thermostat settings when your change your clocks. Increase or decrease the temperature on your thermostat to match your comfort settings.
Clear Debris from Around Your Outdoor Condenser
Autumn brings along lots of leaves that can surround your AC’s outdoor condenser unit, potentially blocking air from getting through the unit. Clean the area around your unit before leaves really start to fall, and clean the area throughout the season as well.
Clean the Coils
Vacuum the coils to remove any dust or debris that may be on them. This will ensure your unit runs more efficiently.
